Learning to Pray

A Look at the Lord's Prayer
Prayer has been described simply as “talking to God” and at other times prayer seems profound, full of truths about God, like Jesus prayer in John 17. How should a Christian pray? If you have ever wondered if your prayers could be better, than join Jesus’ disciples who also wondered and then asked him, “LORD, teach us to pray?”

Our Father: Know to whom you are praying
• • • • •
Needing to find a balance between being speechless before God in His holiness and being “chatty” with God as our Heavenly “Dad”, we learn that in prayer we are meeting with a Person, our Heavenly Father. As with any relationship, the more you know someone the better you can connect with and confide in that person.

God's Providing: Three ways we ask God to sustain us
• • • • •
In this message, we will learn to trust God to provide for us by asking Him for His kingdom, His will, and our daily bread. These requests help us experience God’s activity in our everyday events. Let’s ask ourselves, “How well do I go through a day aware of God’s agenda for me?”

God's Protection:Three ways we ask God to protect us
• • • • •
In this message, we will learn to rely on God to protect us by asking Him for forgiveness of our sins, leading away from temptations, and deliverance from evil. These requests keep us secure in the face of our enemy, Satan, who wants us to think we are defeated by his attacks. Let’s ask ourselves, “How strong am I in my daily battles against Satan’s schemes to defeat me?”

The Lord's Prayer: Trying it out loud
• • • • •
On this Sunday we will celebrate Christ and His sacrifice for us in communion and use the LORD’s Prayer as a guide to our worship. From what we have learned, we will pray to God. We will not make people pray and especially not make them pray out loud as much as guide into God’s presence. If we want to learn to pray, we need to pray!

Church Picnic
• • • • •
We will be meeting off site for this weeks service. Traditionally this is a time of food and fellowship, a time for all to get together and break bread as a community.
